Disney Cruise Day 3 5/17/05 Castaway Cay

Day 3, May 17, 2005 Castaway Cay Day

Room service woke us up at 7:05 am, SOOOO early to be up on vacation! We had ordered our breakfast last night; bagels milk, juice and fruit. I looked outside and could see Castaway Cay in the distance!! I tried to wake Brandon up, but it took a bit to get him moving!!

I put our breakfast outside, and sat down to eat. I kept taking peaks to see how close we were getting to the island.

After a bit we it seemed we were passing the island. HOLD UP....just wait one minute here...why are we passing our island???? Oh, because we are BACKING in! Doh!

Brandon finally decided to wake up and see what was going on...

We finished our breakfast and watched the crew unload all the food and items from the ship.

Finally around 8:20 am, even though we didn’t hear the All Clear announcement yet, we headed down to get in the line to get off the ship. As it turned out, they were just starting to let guests off, and we were one of the fist 20-30 off the ship!!! Woo Hoo!! The post office wasn’t open yet, so we passed that and got a few pictures taken.

Then we caught the tram to the Family Beach. While waiting for the tram, we ran into our table mates and rode over with them. Her husband had been ahead of us, and had found a great spot on the family beach with a hammock!! This would be GREAT for our DDD, at least we had hoped it would be! More on that later.

Family Beach

We stake claim on some chairs right behind our friends, and then head off in search for our floats. (I ask again, where the heck is my SUNSHINE????) It was cloudy and nasty looking out, pretty much threatened to rain/storm all day! We put our floats on our chairs, and then head off to find where to pick up our bike rentals. We stopped first before we picked up the bikes to take a few pictures.

I figured first thing in the morning would be best to ride. Turns out we were the first ones to pick them up and go on the trail!!

Let me just say it has been years since I have ridden a bike...enough said! We rode down the airstrip to Serenity Bay (the adult only beach).

I made Brandon stay out on the airstrip while I took a quick look around the adult beach. There was a water cooler there, so we took a break to drink some water.

We took off onto the other part of the trail (NOT PAVED by the way) past the open air massage cabanas for the adults.....sigh.....! We really got our work out riding our bikes all the way to the dead end.

I’m glad we did this, it was actually fun and a great work out! We returned our bikes and headed back to the family beach.

Along the way, we bought a DCL cooler with 6 water bottles and ice for $15.00. It was SO worth that money for the WATER and we got the cooler to keep!! I drink SO MUCH water! They also had the cooler with soda package.

We went back to our seats so I could lay out some, and Brandon went in the ocean. He found our table mates and their dad.

They all had fun playing. I got about 15 minutes of Sun, and I took advantage of it. Once the yucky storm clouds came out, I headed out to the FREEZING COLD water to join Brandon. It took me 20 minutes to get used to the water and get all the way in! Brrrrr!! I got on my float and just chilled for a bit. I talked with the little girl we ate dinner with, and then noticed it was almost time for lunch. So what if it was only 11:30am, and I normally don’t eat lunch until 1:30pm. I was starving!!

They made an announcement that Cookies Barbeque was open for lunch and we made our way over. We picked out our food and found a nice spot to eat. They had music going, and a few CM to guide you to the shortest line, and they were all just dancing around and SO happy to be there! It was contagious, and everyone in line was singing and dancing around! I got a little bit of everything to try, especially the deserts. I know its hard to believe, but I really didn’t eat too much. Hmmm...Brandon on the other hand, went to town on his food! LOL As we were leaving, we saw our table mates and they called us over to show us where the icecream was! So of course we had to get a cone! Yummy!!

I noticed Minnie Mouse out, and no line so we got in line for a picture.

We decided to let our lunch settle before going back in the ocean, so we got the postcards and headed back to get the tram to the Post Office to buy stamps. We ran into Yippy Skippy and family on the way over. We stopped to talk and take a few pictures, and then walked to the P.O.

Patrick and his Dad

They were going to head back to the ship, as they had had enough fun on the island for one day. Guess what???? The Post Office was CLOSED for lunch! Wouldn’t be back until 1:30pm. Bummer!

We went back to the beach, and decided to go snorkeling. Yeah, um....maybe I should have practiced on my new snorkel BEFORE this trip??? After getting all set up and putting our flippers on and walking backwards into the ocean (makes it much easier with flippers on if you do this), we head out to the EASY course. Neither one of us has snorkeled before, but we were ready. I don’t think I’ve EVER taken in so much salt water in my LIFE! I finally gave up the snorkel and just used the mask! We never did find Mickey. Someone told us to go to the yellow marker, but when we did it wasn’t there. A cruel joke I tell ya, someone was laughing for sure!

We headed back to our seats, only to find strangers in OUR hammock. When we had got there earlier in the morning, I told our table mates of our DDD, and asked to us their hammock. They said it is the FAMILY hammock, and said it was for ALL of us to use! I thought that was sweet!! But it turns out, grandma and grandpa thought everyone had left and moved Mom and Dads things off the hammock. Someone swooped it up real quick, even though there was stuff on the chair right next to it! So we never got to do the hammock dares! We did get their ds Marshall to take a sword fighting picture!

After all the snorkeling and salt water, I decided it was time for a Margarita! A server came and took my order and we just chilled out for a bit while I drank it. It started to drizzle some, so we decided it was time to head out. (The clouds looked REALLY bad at this time and I didn’t want to get Brandon trapped in a storm! Lordy Be! LOL) It was about 2pm when we caught the tram back to the dock. We stopped off by the post office to finally get our stamps and mail out our postcards. I’ve been told it could take over a month to receive the postcards from the Bahamas.

Post office as seen from our Verandah:

We went back to the room, ordered room service...Mickey Bars, and took our showers. I went down to drop off our rebooking slip. I had put one in but didn’t put a date. Jocelyn had left a voice message and a note for me. So I filled it out and left it for her. Went back to the room to relax on the veranda, and write in my journal until it was time for the Deck Party at 4:45pm.

At the deck party, Junction 21 performed and kids were still swimming in the goofy pool. We went up to deck 10 to watch us pull away from the dock. There were CM waving Mickey hands, and we got another one of our DDD taken care of! It had been pretty cloudy during the party, but as if on Cue..when they started singing Walking On Sunshine, the sun shined through the clouds!! Only Disney could do that! Ha!

We headed down for dinner and got in line for our picture with Pirate Goofy.

We saw Lilo and Stitch, but that line was so LONG! We didn’t want to be late for dinner so we didn’t get in that line. We did go upstairs and take another picture. There was only one other family in line ahead of us. This turned out to be one of my favorites!

It was Pirate Night, and when we got to our table, we had pirate Bandana’s waiting for us. Nelson came and put them on for us, and took a picture with Brandon.

The kids had fun at this meal, and even got to get up and dance a conga line around the restaurant.

I was ready to tackle another DDD...to order 3 deserts.

Ok, I confess I only ordered TWO , but Ed ordered TWO and let me borrow his for the picture! LOL We all got so close, that we actually shared our deserts! Yummy!!! He had the BEST Key Lime Pie!!! And he ate the rest of my fruit concoction thing (forget what it was called).

Brandon and his new friends:

Here was another DDD picture...I know...my "Pirate Face" and "Arrgh" needs a little work!

After dinner, the all stopped by our room to see what our Verandah looked like! They thought it was awesome. We then headed off to see Golden Mickeys. They decided to go swimming. By this point my sinuses were bothering me from the smokers on the verandah next door...so I was kinda cranky. But I did enjoy this show.

Now it was time to head off to the Pirate Party at the Goofy Pool. The good pirates were out and dancing up a storm!! We watched from Deck 10,and Goofy ended up almost right next to us!

Minnie and Chip and Dale also came out to dance, until Captain Hook and the bad pirates came to “take over the ship” since theywere not invited to the party. Captain Hook ended up being right next to us to! Then Pirate Mickey comes to save the day! And the fireworks shoot off from the side of the ship, and more dancing is called for!! They end up doing a conga line around the area. As we were leaving, we ran right into Mickey! Luckily I had my camera on!

By this time, we were soooo tired. We’d been up since 7am, we had been biking, hiking, snorkeling and pirate dancing! We decided to head to bed. Since I had TWO deserts for dinner, we didn’t feel like stopping at the midnight buffet! It all looked good though! We got back to the room,

Brandon went to bed and I went out on the verandah to write in my journal and to relax before bed! Ahhhhh....I can still hear the ocean, and feel the cool breeze on the verandah!!!
